Accreditations we require

The standards every installer on our panel has to meet.

We are a broker, not an installer. We do not carry out the work, so what protects you is the standard of the company that does. These are the schemes we check before an installer is allowed on our panel.

Microgeneration Certification Scheme logo

MCS

Microgeneration Certification Scheme

The standard that protects grants, SEG eligibility and consumer rights.

MCS certification is a hard requirement for every installer on our panel. Without it you lose access to the Smart Export Guarantee and most grant routes, so it is the first thing we check and the one criterion we never waive.

Energy Performance Validation Scheme logo

EPVS

Energy Performance Validation Scheme

Independent validation of the performance figures on your quote.

All of the installers we work with are registered with EPVS. It means the generation and savings figures printed on your quote have been produced to an independently validated standard rather than an optimistic sales estimate.

National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers logo

NAPIT

National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers

Competent-person registration for the electrical work on your install.

Solar, battery and EV charger installations are notifiable electrical work. Competent-person registration means the electrical side is self-certified to the required standard and properly notified.

Government-endorsed quality scheme logo

TrustMark

Government-endorsed quality scheme

Covers workmanship, trading standards and customer protection.

TrustMark registration brings technical competence, trading standards and customer-service requirements under one government-endorsed framework, with a route to raise a complaint if something goes wrong.

Home Insulation and Energy Systems consumer code logo

HIES

Home Insulation and Energy Systems consumer code

Deposit protection and independent dispute resolution.

A consumer code adds deposit protection and access to independent dispute resolution on top of the installer's own guarantees, which matters most on the rare job that does not go to plan.

Insurance-backed workmanship guarantees logo

IWA

Insurance-backed workmanship guarantees

Cover that holds even if the installer ceases trading.

Every installer we recommend carries workmanship guarantees underwritten by an independent insurer. If the company were to stop trading, the cover still stands, which is the single biggest protection gap in this industry.

Financial Conduct Authority authorisation logo

FCA-approved finance

Financial Conduct Authority authorisation

Regulated finance, not the cheapest headline rate.

Any installer on our panel offering finance is FCA-authorised. That means they have passed regulatory checks on how credit is sold, even where their rate is not the lowest available.

Being straight about what we hold ourselves

The Solar Broker is not currently a member of RECC, TrustMark or HIES in its own right, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. We are a broker and advisor. All of the installers we work with are registered with the Energy Performance Validation Scheme, and we carry £1 million Public Liability insurance and are dbs certified.
