Why an independent broker

A different job to a solar installer.

The solar industry is loud, and most of the loudest voices are selling their own kit. The Solar Broker was built to sit on your side of the table, reading your bill, walking your roof, understanding what you actually want, then presenting quotes from a small panel of installers we would trust on our own homes.

You pay the installer for the work. You never pay us, and the commission we take is less than half what a typical solar sales rep pockets. That is the whole model.

Impartial by design

Every installer on our panel pays the same fixed brokerage fee, so there is no financial reason to favour one over another.

Roofer's-eye surveys

Our team is led by a former roofer. Every property is assessed on the ground, not from a satellite image.

Licensed drone assessments

Roofs are surveyed with a licensed drone and paid-for professional design software, not free web tools.

Aftercare that stays

You keep our direct number. We're still here for warranty questions, tariff changes and add-ons years after handover.

Not all solar advice is the same

An independent broker isn't a comparison site or a lead generator.

Comparison websites sell your enquiry. Lead generation companies book appointments for sales teams. We do neither, we give whole-of-market advice, then let you choose the installer.

  • Whole-of-market, not a pay-to-play panel
  • Fixed commission, so no installer bias
  • One consultant, from first call to switch-on
Nine ways we earn your trust

Independence is a business model, not a slogan.

Anyone can call themselves impartial. These are the nine structural reasons our advice stays that way, whichever installer you end up choosing.

  1. 01

    The advice is free

The phone consultation and the full advice service cost you nothing. You only ever pay the installer for work you agree to.

  2. 02

Every installer pays us the same

A fixed commission across our whole panel, so there is no financial reason for us to steer you towards one installer over another.

  3. 03

Less than half a sales rep's cut

Our commission is less than half of what a typical solar sales rep takes, and that saving stays in your quote.

  4. 04

    MCS certified installers only

Non-negotiable. It is what protects your grant eligibility, your Smart Export Guarantee and your consumer rights.

  5. 05

    Guarantees that survive the installer

Workmanship guarantees underwritten by an independent insurer, so cover holds even if the company stops trading.

  6. 06

A licensed drone on every roof

We fly the survey ourselves and design in bespoke paid software, not the free web tools used to guess at a roof from a satellite image.

  7. 07

    Your price on the day

You get the design and the price during the visit. No callback, no manager phoning to discount you into signing.

  8. 08

You choose, from around three quotes

Like-for-like quotes from vetted installers, presented side by side. You sign directly with whoever you pick.

  9. 09

    Aftercare with no end date

You keep our direct number. If something needs sorting years later, we take it up with the installer for you.

How it works

From first call to power on the roof, in five honest steps.

Site visits typically within 2–3 days of the initial call. Full price confirmed on the day of the visit.

  1. Step 01

    Free phone consultation

A 10–20 minute chat about your bill, your roof and what you actually want from solar.

  2. Step 02

    Fit check

If it looks like a genuine match, we book an in-person visit, typically within 2–3 days.

  3. Step 03

    On-site + drone survey

Licensed drone survey, roofer's-eye check, bespoke design software, and your price on the day.

  4. Step 04

    Compare quotes

Around three quotes from vetted installers on our panel, like-for-like, easy to compare.

  5. Step 05

    You choose. We stay.

You contract directly with the installer. We stay available, indefinitely, for aftercare.

Installer standards

How we vet every installer we recommend.

Our panel is small on purpose, a mix of local and national installers, all held to the same seven criteria. If they slip, they come off the list.

Book Free Consultation
  • MCS Certified

Required across every installer we work with, the standard that protects grants and the Smart Export Guarantee.

  • Independently Underwritten Guarantees

Warranties backed by an independent insurer, so cover holds even if the installer goes out of business.

  • Major, Reputable Suppliers

Panels, inverters and batteries from manufacturers with real track records, not white-label unknowns.

  • Genuine Value For Money

Priced fairly for the specification, not marked up to fund a hard-sell sales team.

  • Financial Stability

Which? Trusted Trader status used as one signal that the business is here for the long term.

  • Proven Longevity

Established installers with a demonstrable history of clean handovers and aftercare.

  • FCA Approved For Finance

Every installer offering finance is FCA-approved: regulated checks passed, not the cheapest headline rate.

Accreditations we require

Every installer is assessed against the standards that matter.

These are the named schemes and consumer-protection frameworks our vetted panel is held to, the difference between a properly protected install and a cheap headline price.

  • Microgeneration Certification Scheme logo
    MCS

The standard that protects grants, SEG eligibility and consumer rights.

  • Energy Performance Validation Scheme logo
    EPVS

Independent validation of the performance figures on your quote.

  • National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers logo
    NAPIT

Competent-person registration for the electrical work on your install.

  • Government-endorsed quality scheme logo
    TrustMark

Covers workmanship, trading standards and customer protection.

  • Home Insulation and Energy Systems consumer code logo
    HIES

Deposit protection and independent dispute resolution.

  • Insurance-backed workmanship guarantees logo
    IWA

Cover that holds even if the installer ceases trading.

  • Financial Conduct Authority authorisation logo
    FCA-approved finance

Regulated finance, not the cheapest headline rate.

What each accreditation means
How we get paid

Our independence guarantee.

  • You pay nothing. Consultation, advice and ongoing support are all free.
  • The installer pays a commission, less than half what a typical solar sales rep takes.
  • Every installer pays the exact same rate. No hidden incentive to push one over another.
  • We only ever recommend the installer offering the best value and best service for your job.
Consumer protection

Your protection doesn't stop at the invoice.

The installation contract sits between you and the installer, that's how it should be. The installer provides workmanship guarantees, and panels, inverters and batteries carry their own manufacturer warranties. Every installer we work with is registered with the Energy Performance Validation Scheme (EPVS).

If a dispute ever arises, we stay involved and escalate on your behalf. We're not a middleman that disappears the moment you sign, we're the reason you signed with confidence in the first place.
